The NSAO board of directors reviews all applications for membership. Applicants are approved for membership only at NSAO Board Meetings, which are held at scheduled dates throughout the year. Please inquire before you are scheduled to start working, as you will need to allow for up to 60 days for NSAO to process your completed application form and documentation.

Requirements

Any new applicant is required to meet the following qualifications for membership as set out at Section 6.02 of the by-laws of NSAO which include:

  • Must have completed an osteopathic education and/or training program approved by NSAO.
  • Must have completed up-to date Standard (also known now as Intermediate Workplace) First Aid and CPR Level C training (infant and AED included)
  • Must demonstrate current and up-to date (minimum requirement within 6 months) Vulnerable Sector Check including Criminal Background Check, from the province or country that you have resided in (ie: Canada, UK, USA etc).
  • Must have malpractice insurance in place, on terms required by NSAO (5 million minimum)
  • New Grads: Provide a reference from one of your teachers or supervisors from the school that you graduated from
  • If from another association (ie: GoSC, Physio etc): Provide a reference from the association or provide the contact info to confirm your membership
  • Must demonstrate an intention to practice Osteopathy in the Province of Nova Scotia.
  • Must demonstrate that the applicant has not previously been terminated or suspended from the practice of osteopathy in any other jurisdiction.
